I hope you are great.
I am about to deliver my Thesis project and I have been dealing with the Titleblock editor. I imported a CAD file to it, but Revit 2010 does not seem to respect lineweight and other text issues. So I am a little bit desperate as I need to create a Titleblock to insert all the views I have.
If there is anyone who can help me telling me how I can create one with success, I would really appreciate that.
Thanks a lot!
Have an excellent day!
Ricky. | | | |

I have also noticed that there are issues with getting imported CAD files to plot appropriately, even though you may have over-ridden the line weights and styles and they look "correct" on the screen, particularly when plotting with a PDF writer. AutoDesk needs to address this, as virtually every project relies on an imported Site/Civil Survey.
On one project I ended up tracing some of the important lines with Detail Lines, and leaving the other linework as a weak greyscale. I have not tried to test a PLT writer.
If your attempts to over-ride the lineweights and styles have failed, Your best bet is to create a new title block in Revit.
If anyone else can shed light on this, I'd like to hear from you-

I've tried to do it and it works fine for me.
The trick is that you must assign in AutoCAD every different line weight element to a different layer.
Import the DWG into the family editor and explode it. You'll see in Object Styles a category named "Title Blocks" and all the layers you created in Acad with their line weights. Last Edit on:12/14/2010 2:57:33 AM |

Hello again guys!
Thanks a lot for your answers. Actually I have tried importing a Titleblock I created in ACAD, then exploding it and it worked. but the lineweight in Revit seems to be a little bit different from ACAD. Anyway, I have another question for you:
It is the first time I work with revit linked files and it's driving me crazy as I have not found a way to manage the object styles and overriding them as I want. I linked a file with the structure of my building to not make the central file too heavy, but at the time I was trying to change the linestyle, color and weight, it did not make any change in the view.
I really need to know how to manage that. I hope anyone could help me!
Thank you all!
Have a great week! |

Hey Ricky,
REVIT manages pen weights by view and with a master setting. First under stand model object pen weights can change based on scale, second Object Styles manages the master pen weights for all categories.
Start by going to Manage TAB -> Additional Settings-> Line Weights, here you will see the pen numbers and weights per scale (screen capture or write them down). Second go to Manage Tab -> Object Styles, here is a list of all the categories in Revit and the pen assignment. Compare notes to the pen weights and modify. These pen settings will apply to all views unless you override them in the view (like setting layers in model space).
You can also control pen weights per view (like change layer settings per viewport). Go to the view you want to edit pick the "edit" button by Visibility/Graphics Override. Here you can edit the category settings for this view only.
Good Luck.

Ricky,
To expand upon what Rick said, managing the object styles of a linked file can be a bit tricky. Typically, when linking a Revit file, it is set by default to be handled by "Host View". If you check your VG Overrides Dialog box, you'll notice a Revit links tab. Here you have some options, and without making this a crazy long post, I'll try to summarize:
1) You can leave the Revit link set "By Host View". This will allow all your VG overrides on your model and Annotation tabs to apply to the linked file as well.
2) You can set the linked file to "By Linked View." This can be a good option (especially pre-Revit 2011) when trying to document linked files. The only option to tag doors, windows, walls, etc. was to tag them in the linked file, and set that view to show in the Host File by using the "By Linked View" Option.
3) You can set the linked file to "Custom." This will allow you to fully customize the display of the linked file in that particular view, independent of the way objects are shown that are native in the host file.
I'd be happy to elaborate anything that doesn't make sense.
Hope this helps. _______________

Hey guys...wow...I just realized I totally misread that post. I thought it was for linking Revit files, not CAD files...well, anyway...lol
EDIT: Okay, looks like I wasn't crazy after all...I guess I did see your question about linked files further down... _______________
