AutoRoute not working

Working in Revit MEP, we have a Project File that, for some reason autoroute of ducts or pipes will not work. Any suggestions?

Hello, I'm not super familiar with RMEP, but does it just do it in that one file on that computer?...if so, what about the view level?...can you go into a different view and get the autoroute to work, or will it not work in any view for the project?

Autoroute for Pipes & ducts will not work in any view - one engineer thought it was related to the Project Template, that was used when setting up the file; the default is Electrical, but when I changed the template to Mechanical, through repathing, that did not help.

if you create a whole new file from the default MEP template, does it work then?  Sorry, I'm just trying to help you troubleshoot it.  I would first try to figure out if it seems to be an issue with multiple files or just that file.  If it's multiple files, either there is a user error or a program error, and I would probably try and reinstall Revit assuming you are sure it's not user error.  If it's specific to that file, then it's really hard to say.  Could be a view setting or something, or maybe it's an issue with the way the systems in the file are set up...shooting in the dark here, but hopefully this will help some.

If you figure out the problem, please let us all know how you solve it!

No, and I've got 4 engineers waiting on me .  .  .  When we used the Mechanical Project Template to set up a new project, the electrical components don't work - when we use the Electrical template, auotrouting for pipes & ducts doesn't work.  I can't beleive Revit MEP would make the user have to edit the Project Template for an M E P firm to work in one project.

Also, on the first level the spaces "are not properly enclosed" but they are fine on the other levels.  Any suggestions?

We've tried setting up new projects & it's the same issue each time - if we use the Electrical Project template, mechanical doesn't work, if we use the Mechanical Project tempalte, the electrical doesn't work.

I watched a tutorial which offered a third Project template: "Systems", but I am not the one who installed the software & he is not available, so I don't know where this template resides.

Attached is the Autodesk Systems-Default.rte template for Revit MEP 2011.  Hopefully that will help.  I haven't checked but assume that the Mechanical settings are different in the Electrical template (and the Electrical settings are different in the Mechanical template).

After I thought about it, I think this template is for plants - like auto manufacturer- that's the 1st bldg type in the list.

Out of the box Revit MEP has three MEP specific project templates “Mechanical-Default.rte”, “Electrical-Default.rte” and “Systems-Default.rte” (includes mechanical, electrical and plumbing views and families) For example, in the “Mechanical-Default.rte” there are only mechanical and plumbing components already loaded in the project. There are going to be no power or lighting views created. The rest of the templates are architectural or construction.

So, two things

1. If  I had used 'Systems Template" upon setting up the project, both Mech & Elec families & setting would load?

2. Is there a way to change to "Systems Template" after we have been working on the project?

I appreciate all yous guys help!

You might be able to do a "transfer project standards" and get some of the settings and families over from the Systems Template project.  Just be careful that you don't override anything you didn't intend to.
