I hope you are great, by the way, Happy New Year to all of you.
This time I have been trying to export an FBX file to make the rendering process in 3ds Max 2010, yet at the time I do that on Revit Architecture 2011, it does not respond for a long time, so I have to close the application.
In the past few days I exported all the objects present in the model, and it worked well. The problem was at the time to import to 3ds Max. The creation process took a lot of time (like 45 Minutes) So I decided that if I exported by separate elements, it would be faster. Therefore, I tried exporting just the windows and doors, and that was the first time it did not respond. The second time, just the doors, and againg, it did not respond.
Then I thought that perhaps some of the windows I have had an error in their creation process or something like that. I changed them for a generic model from Revit. And here it goes, another try, and nothing. The same. Next, I changed the doors, because I had edited one family to make the door appear with the panel open at certaing angle. Now, with both, windows and doors changed I tried again and guess what?
Yes, I do not know what is wrong with this. If anyone could help me I would really really appreciate it! I am on a deadline and I need to do some renders for the client.
Thanks a lot in advance! Have an excellent weekend! Good luck.

Ricky,
Depending on the size of your model, and the amount of RAM and speed of your processor in your computer, this could take a long time.
If you can send me this information:
1) Size of the Revit model you are trying to export
2) Version of Revit (year release and 32-bit or 64-bit
3) Amount of System RAM in machine
4) Speed of your processor.
Based on this information, I should be able to give you a better idea if 45 mins. is logical or if something else might be wrong.
Always glad to help. _______________

Hello again guys!
I really appreciate how fast and efficient you answer.
I first tried downloading and re-installing the FBX plug-in for 3ds max 2010 x64 and opened Revit to see if I could make it this time, but the program failed once again.
Regarding the computer specs, here they are:
Acer Aspire 5532 Laptop
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor TK-42 1.60 Ghz
RAM Memory: 3.00 GB (2.75 usable)
OS: Windows 7 Home Basic 64 bits
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD3200
Revit Project Size: 25Mb
Version Release: Revit Architecture 2011 x64 and 3ds Max 2010 x64

Hello,
Like I said in the last post I downloaded the plug-in and re-installed it, also I purged the file and tried the export again, but nothing.
What I noticed was that the memory consume skyrocketed when Revit is working on the FBX export. It increases from 500 MB to 1 GB in, say, 5 seconds or more. I do not think that with a 25Mb file the computer might consume that memory in a simple task. I say simple task because before updating the FBX plug-in, I exported many FBX files without any problem, and in a few seconds.
I do not know what is happening guys. I have checked my computer with a lot of Antimalware, spyware, Antivirus, and that kind of stuff, but I do not notice any increase in the performance.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer to our inquiries.
Have a great day! |

Hello Ricky,
I think that there is a problem because version of your Revit and 3D Studio MAX are diffirent package. Revit 2011 work perfect with 3D Studio MAX design 2011. If you can try open FBX file with 3D Studio MAX design 2011. The relation between Revit 2011 and MAX design 2011 is perfect. In previous version i have problem with FBX.
I am looking for your progress.

Hello!
Thanks a lot for your answer. Before I installed the FBX plug-in update for 3ds max 2010 x64, I exported the entire project which was around 23 MB and Revit did the task without problem. Now that I have installed the update of the FBX plug-in, I have encountered those issues I mentioned.
Regarding the import to 3ds max 2010, I had no problem when I did with the old FBX file. It took 40-50 minutes to create all the objects in the scene, but the job was done. Just matter of time.
Now with the FBX update I have not been able to export a file from Revit. The program does not respond for a long period, so I have to finish the process.
I have been thinking that I need to re-install Revit, but it takes time.
Finally, according to my computer specs, do you recommend me to install 3ds max design 2011? Well I am not sure if my machine could run the progam smoothly.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

HI,
You are right. Your mashine is not very good. At the moment I work with Gugabyte laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo 2,2Ghz, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS, Windows 7 32bit. I have problems with speed too.
Here you can see advantage of 3D Studio MAX design 2011.

I think that with 3D Studio MAX design 2011 you will be more effective.
Now with the FBX update I have not been able to export a file from Revit. The program does not respond for a long period, so I have to finish the process.
I think that you can uninstall FBX update from Control panel.
Always glad to help.

Guys,
Just to be clearer. The main problem happens when I am using Revit to Export an FBX file. Once I have the file, the importing issue, works ok. It takes a long time, but it works.
On the other hand, before those problems happened, I tried to import an FBX file (From Revit 2011) to 3ds max 2010, and took around 2 to 3 hours to complete just 75 percent! I could not believe it, actually, my computer got overheated and I have to shut it down.
Well, I am downloading 3ds max design 2011, unistalling revit 2011 to see ir there was problems in the registry or something like that.
Thanks a lot. |
