Hi..
Can anyone help me with this problem....
I have created a mask region in my REVIT section and want to import the detail from CAD.
I have tidied up the CAD drawing so that only the detail I want is in it on a single layer (in addition to Layer 0)
In REVIT I then focus on the mask region and click on 'Import CAD', pick my .dwg and hit open to pull it into the REVIT drawing. The only problem is that I can't get it to show up in the mask region. I can see it in visibility/graphics Imported Categories but no matter what I can't get it into the region.
I have been getting the following message : -
None of the created elements are visible in Section: Section 1 View. You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings.
Can anyone help me out with this ?
Best Regards

A few items to look at:
1) In AutoCAD, try putting your detail as close to 0,0 as possible.
2) When you import the CAD file, select "Origin to Origin" or "Center to Center" (one might work better than the other).
3) In Revit, Do not have the view cropped when you import it. This should allow you to see the entire extents of your view. When you import, Do a zoom extents. Find your detail, and manually move it where you want it. Then you can turn back on your crop region.
Hope this helps. _______________

Hi SuperJMuser
Thanks for your reply but unfortunately it hasn't worked... I have tried all of the options that you set out but when I zoom extents the CAD detail isn't there!
I have checked in Visibility/Graphics, imported categories and it is there so it must be importing it ok... I just seem to have done something wrong somewhere... I really am desperate to get this sorted.
Best Regards

Hi You may need to check the cad file that you are importing. Sometimes there is geometry that is not on the zero plane and can make the cad file very large when its imported therefore you cant see it. Also make sure your units are the same for each file both cad & Revit and that your using the right units setting when you import it. Also if you pick place in view instead of origin you sound have more control over where it comes in. See how it goes.
Cheers

Could it be that the lines are white when imported and your mask region is also white? |

Hi there....
Thanks for the reply. I figured it out this morning.. I was trying to import it directly into the masked region when I should have imported it as a family first and then pulled it into the masked region.
Thanks anyway for replying

I have been tracking the responses here and I might have a thought, even though you were able to get it to work. Each imported CAD file has a instance setting for "Show in Foreground or Background." However, If you were importing this right into the area of a masking region, it doesn't matter what you set this at, the masking region always covers up the imported CAD file.
However, if you import the CAD file into a, for example, Detail Component Family Template, and then load that in, it takes on the properties of the family, which is allowed to "Bring to Front" of the Masking Region. _______________
