Now the Revit version I am using has come up with a strange situation in which it takes too long to open a file. Most of the times appears a leyend like the following: AdApplication Button does not respond. This has driven me crazy as I have to wait a lot for open a 10MB file. Sometimes I close 2 o 3 times the Revit Application Process from the task manager, because it takes more than double the time to initiate.
Another thing it is annoying me is a text box that shows up every time I open Revit. It is about an add-in I installed from Avatech Solutions, I am talking about Scan To BIM.
I unistalled it because I did not pay attention to the instructions and did not realize that it was intended for those who manage point cloud devices. Now it seems that the registry of that add-in is active and I do not know how to clean it up thoroughly.
If anyone can help me with this issues, I would really appreciate it.
Have an excellent week!
Cheers,
Ricky.

Check to see if the add-in got removed from Your "Revit.ini" file. The file should be located in the application directory. Open it in Notepad, and there should be some sections titled [ExternalApplications]. You'll need to delete the "EAAssembly, EAName, EAClassName" for your add-in. Make sure you then change the "EACount" at the top of the section to be 1 less than it was before.
That's where I would start. Let me know what you figure out.
Always glad to help. _______________

Determine if the add-in(s) have manifest files. Most 2011 add-ins use these XML documents to load their applications; rather than using the old method of specifying them in the revit.ini.
1. Open this folder in Windows Explorer (the ProgramData folder maybe hidden): C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins.
2. Browse through the *.addin files; they should be named so that it is fairly easy to tell which one(s) belong to which add-in.
3. If you do not want the add-in to load, rename the *.addin file by appending something like: *.addin.donotload.
4. Launch Revit and see if the issue(s) is resolved.
BTW, if you open the *.addin file it will show you the full path to where the add-in's DLL(s) exist.

Hello again!
Thanks a lot for your answers. Actually I have solved that issue. The message is no longer appearing on the screen. But there is another thing that it is causing me frustration.
I tend to install lots of programs just in case I need them, yet sacrifcing the performance of my computer. So I would like to know if you can tell me how I can clean up the registry and speed up my laptop.
By the way, I know I have to unistall the programs I do not usually use, but meanwhile if anyone can tell me more about tuning up the Operative System, would be fantastic.
Finally, there are my computer specs to give an idea of what I have.
Acer Aspire 5532.
Processor: AMD Athlon TK-42 (1.6Ghz.)
Memory: 3Gb (2.75 Usable)
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD3200
Hard Drive: 320 Gb
OS: Windows 7 Home Basic 64bits.
Thanks in advance guys!
Have an excellent weekend!

I wouldn't recommend trying to clean your registry unless you are 200% certain you know what you are erasing. Autodesk uses the registry extensively for program settings and its really easy to mess something up without even trying. The files that comprise the registry take up a very tiny percentage of your drive.
Instead - I would look into defrafmenting and making sure all of your drivers are up-to-date. Additionally, look into your active processes - a lot of software will leave something running in the system tray or background that isn't really required. |

Thanks a lot for your attention. I am going to follow your advice. To be honest, I have the habit to check the computer every other day, to see if it has errors on the hardrive or whatever it might be happening. I do this with System Mechanic, Ccleaner, Spysweeper and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I think that is what has maintained my computer stable, otherwise it would have exploded as I have many programs installed.
On the other hand, I would like to ask you if importing PDF files from Corel Draw to Revit, is convenient for creating Presentation Sheets. I am working on the design of a Sheet for our business, yet I do not know whether to use the Old-School method with AutoCAD, or trying something different with Corel Draw.
Any recommendation guys?
By the way, I know I have written 2 different issues in one post, but I would like to ask if anyone of you are from Melbourne. I explain briefly; I am planning to do a master on Urban Design and Planning in Australia, yet I am not sure what would be the best alternative to go for. I really appreciate if anyone could give me the details of 2 o 3 Universities, as well as the cost of living over there and every other thing I might forget.
Thanks again! Take care.
Have an excellent week! |
