Com-Check data from Revit Model?

Has anyone developed a schedule that can pull appropriate data from the model that can be used in a Com-Check Report?

Com-check wants things like areas of exterior walls (INCLUDING wall openings)  below the level of roof insulation, roof areas above conditioned spaces ONLY (no porches, garages, etc.), areas of window and door openings.

You can get the areas of walls using a schedule and the AREA parameter.  You can get the area of the windows using a calculate formula - width * height (same for doors).  However, the big issue here is how you filter out just the items you want.  Do you add a special comment to the walls that you want to get the areas of?  How do you get the correct windows??

we briefly discussed something similar at our local user group meeting this month.  The guy presenting was doing area take-offs & cost estimating but the application of the formulas would probably be similar for a ComCheck.

There are also 3rd party applications that can do at least some of the work for you:  http://saubim.com/  (just linking - I've never used it) [google: revit comcheck]

Everyone,

I just noticed that the latest version of COMcheck will import gbXML files.  I tried this with one of our Revit models and it worked like a charm.  The problem I noticed though, was that it "groups" all your walls for a particular facade into the same line item, so that could be a challenge if you have really complex walls or ones that change drastically.

Other problem would be that, with curtain wall, which I had in the file, I'm not sure how it read it, but since I am doing a COMcheck manually for another project (in CAD...ugh), I am 99% sure it didn't deal with the curtain wall in the recommended way, and on top of that, if there is spandrel glass, there wouldn't be any easy way to add that that I am aware of.

However, for a simple building, I think this gbXML import would work fine (which is probably it's intended purpose currently).  Keep in mind that this is the first release of this feature, so it wouldn't suprise me if they release some additional versions that enhance the parcing of the xml file.

Happy COMcheck -ing!
