Tagging Diversified Receptacles

In Revit MEP 2011 I can put multiple connector elements on a receptacle, (or any other family ). I can then connect the receptacle to two different branch panels to create a diversified circuit. The receptacle(s) will show up on both panel schedules.

When I tag the receptacle only the first panel name and circuit number show up in the tag, is there a way to have a tag show both panels and circuit numbers?

Thanks-

Not without creating an additional shared parameter and duplicating the missing circuit information.

So I did just that. Created a shared parameter and added it to the tag and receptacle. I also created a fixture schedule with the shared parameter included, and unchecked "itemize every instance", that way If I have to enter the info manually I can at least do it once for multiple instances.

This is a work-around and not a very good one. I feel that this is something that will come around to burn us in the long run, especially when the deliverable is tomorrow and a list of changes just came in. I hope Autodesk can adress it in future versions.

Yes, this is a huge short-coming...I'm not sure why they still haven't given us the ability to tag shared parameters, but I also don't doubt the potential programming challenges to this.  We have the same type of issues architecturally, for example showing a room size for typical residential work on a plan.  It's crazy the Revit knows the length of each edge of a room, but we can't schedule it or tag it without some crazy work arounds like calculated values (that we can't tag either), but the calculated values only give you LxW correctly for a rectangular 4 sided room, which I guess is close enough to what we need it for.  However, we resort to the same issue, create the shared parameter, and copy and paste it to a taggable parameter in the schedule so we can show it in tags too.

I tell you what would be nice, if they gave us some more control over parameter associativity.  For example, if I want one parameter to always equal another (within the project) or if I want to set a project level parameter (like for codes) that I could then use in calculated values for if/then scheduling for multiple categories within the project.  Codes is a huge one for this, as doors, stairs, rooms, etc. all relate to being able to use Revit to calculate much of this informaiton for us as the building changes during the design process.

Just some thoughts...

Hello,

Actually you can tag multiple connectors in a receptacle with the Panel Name & Circuit Number information.  My 2 Gang Duplex Split-Switched Receptacle has 4 connectors and I was able to tag every connector with the circuiting info needed.  How?  By creating a short wire (three clicks) from each connector and by tagging these wires.  See attached image.  Isn't it wonderful? Wires are the only Revit objects that I know of that can pick up the circuiting information from each connector inside the same family instance.  You have to be careful though when you move this receptacle because you need to select all tags and wires with your receptacle for everything to follow up.

Hope this helps,

Aldo.

Thanks thats a great tip! Much better then the work-around I was previously using.
